The Worst Thing for the Best Reason

The catalytic converter (a.k.a. as fancy expensive car part) was stolen from my car while I was approaching a significant financial savings goal. Replacing the part is a nice chunk of change, but that didn't faze me.

Why?

Because I was so certain that I was going to hit my goal that I immediately viewed this event as a test. A test to show how committed I was.

The first thought I had after I realized what had happened was "Well, this isn't going to stop me from hitting my goal." In fact, I was NOT going to get the part fixed until I had reached it, which was probably a few months away.

But then I got tired of hitching rides and gave in.

Not out of defeat but because I knew that hitting that goal was still going to happen even if I took money out of my savings. My success was inevitable at that point. I had no doubt. It sucked that it would take longer, but I never stopped believing it wouldn't happen.

My friend, you can hold that same belief for your business.

  • When you post a photo and no one responds.

  • Work on a video for 16 hours and get less than 100 views.

  • The times your friend asks how things are going in your business and nothing has changed in the last 6 months.

  • When you're ghosted on a collab request (again).

  • When 3 people show up to your Instagram Live.

Can you still believe that your dream will happen?

Instead of giving up hope, double down on your belief

Every perceived downfall is an opportunity to practice loving and trusting yourself enough to get back up try again. A chance to interpret fails as lessons. A chance to believe in yourself so much that others’ opinions about you become irrelevant. Like a muscle, you’re strengthening your ability to be uncomfortable for the sake of true fulfillment.

Believe in yourself, not because you suddenly received new evidence that things will work, but because you are committed to continue creating until it does work.

Because you are someone who does what they say they will do.

Because you are willing to do whatever it takes to make your dreams happen, even if that means failing 50 more times.

Because you believe in your craft so much, the idea of giving it up is more painful than the thought of trying again.
